Bill Boocock, Vocal Instructor

Bill Boocock is a specialist in voice technique. He has been preparing singers for careers in the music field for more than 30 years. He is the founder and director of Coast Vocal Studios based in Fountain Valley, California. Boocock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from California State University, Fullerton; a Master’s degree in Music with an emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy from California State University, Los Angeles; and has completed coursework toward a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Oklahoma.

Bill was a pupil of the famous Los Angeles vocal coach Seth Riggs. He also trained with Wayne Eikenberry, Jane O'Donnell and Roger Lubeck. His studies in the area of Vocal Pedagogy were principally with Roger Ardrey and Esther Andreas. Mr. Boocock appeared as a tenor soloist with such prestigious vocal ensembles as the California Bach Choir, Irvine Camarata. His solo work includes roles in Handel’s Judas Maccabeus, Samson, and Messiah; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, as well as masses, cantatas, and motets by Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert and others. Having performed under the baton of such distinguished yet wide-ranging conductors as Helmut Rilling, Roger Wagner and Howard Swan, and Paul Salamunovich, Mr. Boocock has amassed a wealth of musical expertise and a broad, well-informed understanding of musical interpretation.

Boocock appeared in Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady as Freddie Eynsford-Hill and in the familiar Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian-Carlo Menotti as the amusing King Kasper. As well as in the opera and musical theatre genres, Bill has also performed pop, jazz and rock styles in a variety of venues and is also an experienced songwriter. As the winner of a national songwriting competition, he was awarded recording and publishing privileges which led him into the recording industry where he served as Director of Artists and Repertoire at Providence Records from 1991 to 1994.

Mr. Boocock has been teaching music at the college level since 1976 and at Azusa Pacific University for the past 30 years. In addition to serving as the Director of Vocal Studies at the university, his teaching load has included Class Voice, Private Voice, Oratorio Choir, Madrigal Choir, Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, Ear Training and Music Theory. In 2008, Boocock joined the music faculty at Golden West College where he has taught Applied Voice, classes in Music History and the Basics of Music. He currently serves as the Choir Director at Glenkirk Church in Glendora, California.
